The usual breakfast at Lymm truck stop, on the morning of Wednesday 10th August 2005, set us up well for the journey up the M6 to J35 near Carnforth. We followed the lanes through Yealand to Arnside, whereby we followed the signs for "The Knott", which led us to the parking area beneath the summit. From here, it was a steep but very short little haul to the summit plateau, then a nice walk around to the trig point. Most of the summit was wooded, which prevented the best views, although there were some decent views over the Kent estuary. Moreover, it made getting out on VHF quite a challenge, and we only managed to get four contacts, and all along southern Cumbria at that! We returned to the car and made the short drive across to Burton-in-Kendal.
