A summit that I hadn't yet bagged as a multiplier in the
challenge was the relatively local Black Hill G/SP-002. Awaking early at 5am on
Saturday 1st March 2014, I drove up to Reddish Tesco for a sandwich and then
onto the A635 up through Stalybridge, Mossley and Greenfield. I parked in the
usual area opposite the Pennine Way flagged path to the summit.

This path was treacherously slippery with the flags encrusted in smooth ice. As
such, my walk to the summit was carefully slow. 12m netted 20 QSOs, with 7 on CW,
10 on SSB and 3 on PSK31. Summit-to-summits were had with Mickey 2E0YYY/P on
Shining Tor G/SP-004, and into Greece (SV/MC-005) and
Romania (YO/EC-252).

Despite arriving at the summit in frozen fog, this was soon burned away by the
rising sun to reveal a beautiful morning. The return walk was much more
straightforward in the absence of any remaining ice on the flags. Even better
when I came into the "home straight" and noticed that there was a butty van in
the lay-by! A bacon, black pudding and mushroom barmcake and a cup of tea was my
indulgent reward before driving back to Macclesfield.
