Monday 11th November 2019 So after a few nights of very pleasant and very comfortable overnight accommodations, after the Glasgow show I was definitely "roughing it"! The good thing was that I was absolutely shattered, so I had no difficulty whatsoever drifting straight off to sleep.
After waking up, I spent a few minutes listening to the radio news and warming up with the heater in the car. But before long, I had my boots and coat back on, and I was walking up the track on my way to another SOTA activation. It wasn't the most pleasant of weather - cold, drizzly and windy - but I was here, so I thought I may as well.
It was actually quite a struggle getting the four QSOs on Great Mell Fell summit. I did have the HF kit with me for back up, but I was reluctant to deploy it in this weather. Fortunately I did manage to scrape my way to the four contacts and the SOTA activation qualification.
Following descent and drive back up towards the M6, I called in at the Rheged Centre for a cooked breakfast and hot chocolate. That was a very welcome refuel and warm-up ahead of the long drive back to Cheshire.
