This summit was activated by myself, accompanied by Shirley MW0YLS on January 1st, 2004.
The same route was taken to the summit from the yard at Moelfre Hall, and this time we were the only people on the hill. The wind was fierce, blowing in from the west across Snowdonia. After finding the most (but not much) sheltered spot we could behind a rock, we set up the SOTA Beam, using the guying kit and wedging the pole between a pile of rocks. Even so, we only had the mast at half-length, as the wind would have snapped the pole at full extension. John GW4BVE was there yet again, completing four-out-of-four contacts with me on my day's summits, and there were plenty of stations coming back in the pile-up. Unfortunately, for the first time ever, I packed up before working everyone who came back to the call. We lost a couple of stations that had called in, but rather than wait or look for them, we decided to call it a day. The wind was getting ever stronger, the daylight fading, and a large black cloud was heading in from the Irish Sea. We needed to get off the hill! We descended to the cars and drove our ways home. I had 20 points in the bag from my first day of 2004 activity - I may even have been "top"! Thanks to the following stations worked, all on 2m FM with 2.5 watts:
