We left Leominster Youth Hostel bright and early on the morning of Thursday 31st August 2006. Again, the order of the day was to activate as many SOTA summits as possible, with a potential six available on the line we would take. We drove away from Leominster on the A44 towards Bromyard, but soon turned off onto the minor roads to aim for Hegdon Hill via Risbury. This was a summit we had visited last year, but we had simply set up by the gate at the side of the road, without entering the field containing the summit trig. This time, we took the opportunity to climb over the gate and visit the triangulation column properly. This position offered a favourable north-facing take-off point, and we set up the gear accordingly.
Thanks to the following stations, all worked on 2m FM with 2.5 watts:
In just over ten minutes of being being on-air, we had both qualified the activation, and worked any remaining chasers on frequency. Pleased with the opportunity to be back on the road with a summit in the bag ahead of 9am, we packed up and set off for Hergest Ridge G/WB-008. |
