Ingleborough 2015

Marianne, Liam and I had gone for a night away in Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales for a little break and a change of scenery.  Two visits - one each day - were made to Liam's favourite place - the Hawes Wensleydale Creamery for cheese tasting and cheese buying.

Our B&B was Laburnum House in the town where I spent most of the evening listening on my phone via WiFi to the Twente WebSDR tuned to the free radio stations on 48m (6.2 - 6.3MHz AM).  Earlier, we had enjoyed a nice pub meal and drinks in the town, but with Maz and Liam glued to the X Factor on TV, I needed something else to do!

Earlier still, we repeated one of our favourite walks - from Hawes village to Hardraw, and the Green Dragon Inn - and back again.  It was nice to be in the countryside and gulping in the cold late autumnal North Pennines air.  It brought back many fond memories of the many times I brought Jimmy and Liam walking in these parts when they were much younger, in the early days of SOTA.

The walk to Hardraw is partly along the road, with a flagged section across a field and some nice riverside walking on the banks of the Ure.

At the Green Dragon, we rightly and properly got stuck into some beers before walking back to Hawes and beginning to consider what we would be doing for dinner that evening.

The weather was very nice on the morning of Monday 26th October 2015, so after a nice breakfast at the B&B, and another visit to the Creamery, we headed for Ingleborough, parking at Chapel-le-Dale.

This youngster near the Creamery was quite confident!        Final steep ascent onto Ingleborough summit

We all enjoyed the views and walk through the limestone, but once face with the steep final ascent, Marianne and Liam baled out and started their walk back to the car.  I nipped up the zigzags to the summit and activated with my handheld on 2m FM.

After meeting Maz and Liam once again at my car, we drove down to White Scar Caves which I knew to be an excellent tour and spectacle, but which Marianne had never seen before.  Then all that remained was the long but uneventful drive home to Cheshire, after a pleasant couple of days in the Dales.
