The first activation of this summit was with Liam on Tuesday 27th May 2003:
Making our way across from Stiperstones WB-003, we drove
along the knife-edge lane around Wild Moor at the north end of the Long Mynd, and towards
Pole Bank. There are good car parks at SO 421 953 and SO 413 937 with short
easy-under-foot tracks to the summit. We parked in between them in a roadside parking
place at SO 421 945 for the shortest easiest walk of all - about 10 (leisurely) minutes!
The trig point here was at ground level, and I worked G3RDC, M3FRJ, G4OYX and his son
M3XTL. I recognised Dave's (G4OYX) callsign immediately as that of the verie-signer on
QSLs I had received over the years from radio stations like Sunshine 855, Telford
Community Radio, Showtime Radio etc on FM & MW broadcast bands. Hence, we had a good
rag-chew over that lot, and learned that Dave was working on a bid for an upcoming Buxton
licence, the only bid for a MW frequency (1521 kHz).
Thanks to the following stations, all worked on 2m FM with 2.5 watts:
