After leaving Winter Hill G/SP-010 earlier, we continued north on the M61 and M6, before at the exit signpost Longridge. We headed into and beyond this town, before climbing the narrow roads up to the same parking spot as last year (see below). This time, with only Jimmy with me, we were able to make rapid progress up the wet muddy path to the summit, only about 20/25 minutes walk. Again, I didn't use the guying kit for the SOTA Beam, this time wedging the pole between steps on the stone stile in the wall. It was another quick activation, with the logbook being open for 11 minutes and rounding off with a summit-to-summit with Chris on Pendle Hill G/SP-005. Once back to the car, I SWL'd Myke, also on Pendle, and then worked Steve G1INK/P on Red Screes G/LD-017 for 6 chaser points. Thanks to the following stations worked, all on 2m FM with 500mW:
It was then off to Blackpool for the Norbreck Rally, which was great fun. We met up with our many existing friends, easily identifiable in their new SOTA shirts, as were others that we were meeting for the first time. I also met up with some of the regulars on the GB3MN repeater and even a 20 year old who recognised me as the teacher who ran the SWL club (of which he was a participant) back when he was 11! I enjoyed visiting many of the stands, especially Southport & District ARS, PW Publishing (where I was able to introduce myself as the author of the SOTA Beam review in the current Radio Active!), RSGB (for a chat with Dave G0OBW), WAB and IOTA. I managed to pick up virtually everything I had written on my shopping list, and was pleased to receive some genuinely helpful and honest advice and service with several of the exhibitors. Rather suddenly, the end of the rally was upon us, and it was time to head back down the M55 and towards our third planned summit of the day, Billinge Hill SP-017.
