We activated this summit on 17th April 2003. There is roadside parking conveniently available at the start of the walk on Barley Lane, 1 mile NNW of Barley at SD 814 416. It is then a pleasant walk down the farm track (watch out for many species of butterfly), and bear right a couple of times to ascend Pendle Hill. Although it was a beautiful hot sunny day, and very still at the bottom, the summit of Pendle was very windy, particularly the corner of the plateau that the path reaches. We found some shelter by sitting a little way down as the summit plateau slopes away to the west. The ascent/descent is very steep and hard going under foot, so much so that it made my knees shake with every step. Definitely one for the walking pole (which I have now bought!). Another thing to watch is lunch. All the local pubs seem to have closed or stopped serving food around 2pm, so it took us a while to find somewhere.
