This summit was activated on Tuesday 1st June 2004, by myself, accompanied by Jimmy and Liam. Marianne had suggested we have a boys camping outing for the rest of the half-term break, a suggestion that was readily accepted! We followed the same driving route as last year (details below), reaching the start point around midday local time. We followed the same path to the ridge, where it is necessary to turn right and follow the wall to the summit. The path is marked as on the right (South) of the wall on the map, although a clearer path occurs on the left of the wall. Remembering that the path to the left, taken last year, contained a couple of steep scrambles, we decided to try the right-hand path and compare the two. There was probably little to choose between them. At the summit, the weather was unwelcoming - rain and wind - and ambition was limited to qualifying the summit and working any remaining chasers only. This I did, using only the Standard C108 230mW handheld, the FT-817 remaining in the pack where the SOTA Beam stayed strapped up. After finishing, I suggested that the other side of the wall was a slightly easier path, and that we should return that way. Jimmy, making the first of several valuable interjections on this SOTA camping trip pointed out that the strong wind was blowing in from the North, and that we would get some better shelter by returning on this side of the wall. His advice was followed! After returning to the car, we drove down the A55 and over the Britannia Bridge onto the Island of Anglesey, and onto the Garnedd campsite near Brynteg, where we pitched the tent in much improved weather. We eat down the road at the Bull Inn in Pentraeth which has good meals for as little as £2.95 a head, and delicious pint of Stella Artois. Back at the campsite, after settling Jimmy and Liam for the night, I played a bit of QRP HF radio with the FT-817 and 40m inverted V dipole. A very pleasing contact was with fellow SOTA activator Barry GM4TOE. Thanks to all the following stations, all worked on 2m FM using 230mW:
