This summit was activated on Sunday 1st August 2004 by myself, accompanied by Jimmy. It was White Hill Day, and several activators were in the area for their only opportunity of the year to access SP-006 which lies on a private estate. Most of them were heading to White Hill first, so we decided to start with Ward's Stone and some summit-to-summit contacts. We left Macclesfield around 6.20am on the Sunday morning, and made for the M6. After a hearty coooked breakfast at Forton Services near Lancaster, we left the motorway at J33 and headed through Abbeystead and onto Tarnbrook. We left the car in the same place as last year and walked up the same track, but this time took the left turn and made for the rocks at Ward's Stone Breast as our cue to cut across from the track for the summit. This time, I activated from the lower (by 1 metre) trig point at the west end of the summit plateau, and sure enough got a couple of the stations over on White Hill.
Following descent, we drove over to Slaidburn. It was nearly midday, so we decided to have a bite to eat and a drink in the tearooms, and were joined by Steve G1INK who had just descended our next target - White Hill SP-006. Callsign today was GX4BJC/P, the club call of the International Short Wave League (ISWL). See my radio page or click on the link for further details. Thanks to the following stations, all worked on 2m FM with 230 mW:
