Saturday 11th August 2018 was the date of our niece Kayleigh's wedding in Winchester. Marianne, Liam and had a couple of nights accommodation in a nearby village. Jimmy had stayed at home due to work commitments. I'd not pre-planned to do an activation on the morning of the wedding, but when I woke up at 5am, it was the first thing on my mind. It would be a 100 mile round trip to Win Green, but it was doable if I kept my eye on the clock!
Unfortunately, programming my satnav with only a postcode gleaned from a National Trust webpage was insufficient, and it took me a bit of a while to find the Win Green byway and car park. Once I did, it was a trivial walk to the summit. I attempted to get away with just a handheld 2m FM activation to save time, but this only gained me a single QSO. I set up for 20m, and added a further four contacts inside three minutes of operating!
I was a little behind my own self-imposed schedule, but still back at the accommodation in time for breakfast at the adjacent pub, shower and change ahead of the wedding day.
