Our second activation of Cyrn-y-Brain took place on Friday 20th February 2004. It was originally planned as the first leg of a "double" with Moel y Gamelin NW-042 on the same day, but other commitments prevented this. We parked at Ponderosa on the A542 as usual and headed up the rough tarmac track to the summit. On approaching the top, I heard three other summit stations, and just about made it to the summit before two of them descended their's! After working these three - John, Shirley & Mark - on the little 230mW handy, I set up the SOTA Beam, anchored in stones in the cairn. Since our previous visit, the summit cairn had been completely remoulded into a circular shelter, comfortably accomodating the three of us. The blue skies, sunshine and views from the summit were great, and the wind not too bad. However, it was bitterly cold, and hence only 35 minutes operation was done, including one further summit-to-summit with Andrew, and of course, Britain's Most Wanted - The Birmingham Three.
Thanks to the following stations, all worked on 2m FM with 1 watt, exceptions being G0LWU/P where 2.5 watts was used to establish the contact, and the first four which were completed on the 230mW handy:
