Jimmy on SP-017     M1EYP celebrates another feat of extreme mountaineering as the evening closes in on Billinge Hill

After our day out at the Norbreck Rally in Blackpool, and our earlier endeavours on Winter Hill G/SP-010 and Longridge Fell G/SP-014, Jimmy and I set off down the M6 to activate this small ugly lump, on Sunday 21st March 2004.  Upon arriving in Billinge, I headed up to the higher road to the North West of the summit, from where I had used PROWs last year.  However, it appeared that these were now fenced off, probably illegally according to a helpful member of staff at the NTL offices up there.   Thankfully, also being helpful was none other than Riley G7GOD, although using the more exotic M/KB8PPG/M today due to gap before renewing his home call.  Riley had followed us down to Billinge, and talked us in to an alternative parking spot and ascent route.

Thought to be a water tower on the summit of Billinge Hill

From this parking spot, which is at the end of the track down past the vicarage, Jimmy and I set off on the short walk up the easy mainly concrete path to the summit.   Riley remained in his car in order to claim the chaser points (he had already got his 2004 activator point from this summit) and he also kindly offered to log for us, as a few spots of rain were starting to join the very strong winds.  Upon reaching the summit, I again set up the SOTA Beam without the guying kit, using a fence to thread through and support the pole more than adequately.  For the second time today, the logbook was open for just 11 minutes, and five regulars were worked.

Thanks to the following stations, all worked on 2m FM with 1  watt:
