After Normanby Top G/TW-005 on Saturday 9th July 2016, I drove north via the Humber Bridge and into the Yorkshire Wolds, north-west of Hull. Before driving up the A166 to Bishop Wilton, I stopped for fish & chips and a can of pop, which was very welcome. I parked in the usual lay-by at the apex of the A166 road, beside the covered reservoir and inaccessible trig point.
I decided to set up on the opposite side of the road, as the grass in the usual place was very long - and very wet! At least on the other side of the road, there was a field entrance to back-guy my antenna into, and a wide hard-surfaced pavement for me to sit on. As the traffic thundered across Bishop Wilton Wold in both directions, I questioned my sanity at actually choosing to do this at all!
I had been using an end-fed longwire and tuner for most of my recent HF activations, but on this occasion I just put up my 40m dipole. Seven contacts were made, included a S2S, all on CW. I packed up, totally uninspired to attempt further bands or modes, and completed my drive to Leeds for the next gig.
