I told Marianne that I would take Liam walking in Shropshire on Thursday 29th
August 2013, as she and Jimmy were both working that day. "I'm working on Friday
as well" she replied "Why don't you stop overnight?". Bonus!
So off Liam and I set on the Thursday morning with daysacks and an overnight
bag. We headed down the M6 and A49 towards Craven Arms, but turned left before
the Shropshire town to find the parking spot for Callow Hill G/WB-015. The
initial walk was along a fairly level track before branching left on a steeper,
but nonetheless gentle gradient. I recounted to Liam that this path was being
worked on when I last visited in 2006, but it was now an excellent path which
gave good going up to the ridge.
Thence it was an easy flat walk along to he summit and Flounders Folly which
stands upon it. Liam and I found the top of the ridiculously steep bank,
amazingly a PROW which takes a direct line from the lower track. We went up this
way back in 2003 - and it was rather scary!
Liam sat on the folly step to play some new games on his console while I set up
for 12m on the approach path on the other side of the gate. Twelve QSOs were
made on 12m - 4 on CW, 7 on SSB and 1 on PSK31. The descent was via the same
route and we moved over to View Edge G/WB-018.
