An ambitious and logistically demanding plan had been formulated for Tom M1EYP and Jimmy M0HGY's summer SOTA outing. This commenced on the afternoon of Thursday 21st June 2018 as I picked up Jimmy from work and set off for the long drive south to East Sussex. We overnighted at the very pleasant Hollands B&B in Steyning.
The plan for Friday 22nd June 2018 was to activate all of the "A27 Five" summits, before arriving in Eastbourne for a gig with The Ragdolls - a Frankie Valli & Four Seasons tribute show. The first of these was the fairly nearby Chanctonbury Ring on the South Downs.
We parked at the closest access point and followed the good footpath up a gentle gradient onto the South Downs ridge. Jimmy continued his walk to the true summit of Chanctonbury Ring, whereas I made immediately for the trig point on Chanctonbury Hill to get set up for HF.
We both made more than enough contacts to qualify, and I was pleased to get a coupld of S2S QSOs into Switzerland. We had a huge schedule on this day, so we needed to pack away fairly swiftly and get across to Ditchling Beacon G/SE-006.
