Cleeve Hill 2005

Following Bredon Hill G/CE-003, I followed the main road into Cheltenham, and then the A40 out towards Oxford.  Once through Charlton Kings, I looked out for the minor road to Whittington.  This found, I navigated through the narrow lanes until reaching the long straight cul-de-sac that leads right up to the small parking area by the transmitters on Cleeve Common.  Using the common were several participants in an activity I had never seen before.  Some were sat in buggies, some stood on skateboards, but all were using mini-parachute shaped kites to pull them along.  This fascinating spectacle kept me (just about) amused as I struggled for 34 minutes between my first and second contacts!  There were plenty of stations on the band, just not many that wanted to talk to me!  The 4th contact was eventually claimed 50 minutes after the first.  I was back at the car, and on the way home by 8.45pm.

As the M5 homed in on Birmingham, I chatted to an M3 trainee on 2m.  When he told me that he was undergoing his practical work at the Wythall Radio Club, I asked if Don or Pete were there.  Pete M0COP was, and we had a chat for a few minutes, with Pete using G1WAC, the club callsign.  I eventually reached home just after midnight, allowing for a lengthy supper and coffee stop at Hilton Park services.  A satisfying few days, and the culmination of 18 activations in 18 days!

Thanks to the following stations, all worked on 2m FM with 5 watts, except the first contact where 2.5 watts was employed.
