This summit was jointly activated on Sunday 1st August 2004, by myself with Shirley M0YLS/P accompanied by Jimmy, .
Following a spot of tea in the Slaidburn Heritage Centre, Shirley followed Jimmy and myself on the short drive over to Fell Foot, north of Chipping village. Although there are a couple of designated parking areas further down the road, like last year, there was sufficient parking space at the end of the lane by the start point of the path. We commenced on the same initial route as last year, with the steep initial haul up to the summit of Parlick and dropping down to the almost ridge-like coll. Shortly after here, we branched right to follow the less defined path that followed the wall and fence to the true summit, rather than continuing to the large cairn, trig and shelter which all stands 10m lower than the summit true.
The true summit is also marked by a cairn, but not as large as that over by the trig and shelter. We set up here, and quickly got a summit-to-summit with Steve G1INK/P over on Longridge Fell G/SP-014, who had been patiently waiting for us. A sequence of regular chasers duly followed, mainly thanks to John GW4BVE who had been keeping the reflector informed as to our progress. After a very pleasant and picturesque evening descent, we headed for the M6 and home. We arrived home at 10pm, to be greeted with two very inviting plates of liver and onions with mashed potatoes and swede which went down very well indeed! Callsign today was GX4BJC/P, the club call of the International Short Wave League (ISWL). See my radio page or click on the link for further details. Thanks to the following stations, all worked in FM mode:
