Saturday 7th March 2020 - Moel Gyw GW/NW-053, Foel Fenlli GW/NW-051, Moel Famau GW/NW-044, Penycloddiau GW/NW-054, Mynydd y Cwm GW/NW-076, Great Orme GW/NW-070, The Cloud G/SP-015 & Gun G/SP-013 From Mynydd y Cwm GW/NW-076, I got on the A55 and made my way to Llandudno. I drove right up to the summit car park on the Orme, then walked up to the trig point. it was extremely windy! Just over 35 minutes of calling brought just eight contacts, but all 2m FM. I couldn't buy a digital voice QSO! I figured that I'd probably be back this way at some point in the year - hopefully on a Challenge date - so I could try again then - and set off for home - or so I thought.
As I was dropping back down into the town of Llandudno, the message came through from home that I was to sort my own tea out, as the rest of the family were having something now, and there wouldn't be anything left for me. That gave me an idea. I found a chippy and got myself a large haddock, chips and mushy peas. After this refuelling session, I drove back up the Orme with the sole focus of soliciting that hitherto elusive C4FM contact!
This still proved tricky. In fact getting any contacts was now difficult - the band was extremely quiet. I've known VHF to be very active from this location on a Saturday teatime in the past, but not so on this occasion. Eventually, I got a couple of stations in Lancashire, and fortunately, one of them had C4FM. I could now drive back to Cheshire with all possible multipliers safely secured! I didn't call in at home, but headed directly for The Cloud G/SP-015.
