Haddington Hill 2004

This summit was activated by myself, accompanied by Jimmy on Sunday 27th June 2004:    Click to return to summit index

Tom M1EYP activating Haddington Hill - from the summit of Aston Hill!     Jimmy, trig point & SOTA Beam    This area, a short distance away, is where we reckon the true summit to be

From Twickenham, back to the M4 and M25 before leaving on the Aylesbury road and later turning left for the Wendover Woods Forestry Commission area. The lane into the woods passes a Pay & Display machine fairly early, although there is another one in the main car park further up. It costs £2, but after inserting £1 the ticket was offered, so I gratefully accepted and bid a vote of thanks to the kind soul who had left a pound in it! I did not drive all the way to the main central parking area, but pulled into one of the lay-bys on the left, close to which a path leads off up to the trig point on Aston Hill SP 891 100. This is within the activation area as defined by the 25m rule, even though it lies around half a mile to the north of the summit true.

What with the WAB contest and all that, I operated on SSB with 5 watts. Thanks to the following worked stations:

We then drove up to the main car park, and went to find the true summit. There is a cairn labelled as the summit at the edge of the wood, but the highest point would appear to be 50 yards away in undergrowth. It is very flat though!  We then set off for our final summit of the Central England five - Bardon Hill CE-004 up in Leicestershire.
