Sunday 7th June 2015 was an unusual solo weekend day outing for me. The plan was to activate all five of the Clwydian hills that are SOTA summits, working from south to north. I got up at 5am and got on my way across the M56, A55 and A494. Parking, as usual, was in the large car park at the Clwyd Gate Motel.
This walk is very straightforward, but pleasant. The Offa's Dyke Path is followed from the A494 down a farm track, then ascending, sharply at times, through a large field. The national trail then bears right and becomes a much wider track with magnificent views to the right (West), before the leaving the Offa's Dyke Path. At a sort of saddle and junction of many paths, you double back on yourself and follow the summit path up to the trig point.
Knowing there to be a 6m contest event on, I set up the SB6 as the antenna of choice. It did not appear to be a particularly well-supported event though, and just seven stations were worked in nearly half-an-hour of operating. I decided to pack away and move on to Foel Fenlli GW/NW-051.
