The last summit of a four summit day on Sunday 1st October 2007.  From Stingwern Hill GW/MW-030, we returned to the car and drove to Mynydd-y-briw GW/NW-060 - or tried to.  Following Jimmy's normally superb navigation, I was mildly surprised after 20 minutes to be faced with the A483 offering a left turn to Welshpool.  We soon recalculated a new route up the A483 and A495, and arrived at the bottom of the tarmac track up Mynydd-y-briw at around 5.10pm local.  Liam again opted for the charts on BBC Radio 1 and the comfort of the back seat, so it was a march up the steep track for Jimmy and I.

We were a little behind schedule, so we went for a handheld smash-and-grab, although things were a little quiet and I tried to work out the probabilities of the quicker qualification times, whether on handy with no setting-up involved, or 817/beam with much improved receiving and transmitting capability. The rain had returned, and a rumble of thunder reminded me of the occasion two years ago when a huge lightning strike on the same summit chased me off with only two contacts in the log. We did get wet, but four stations, including stalwarts GW4BVE and G4ERP/M sorted us out. A nice day out, and another four crossed off the "to do" list.

Many thanks to the following stations, all worked on 2m FM with 2.5 watts:

G4ERP/M 5 miles W of Shrewsbury Richard T, J
GW4BVE Pool Quay John T, J
M0VGP Walsall Sean T, J
M0CCN St Martins Steve T, J
