From Penycloddiau GW/NW-054 on Monday 25th February 2013, I kind of followed my nose, and a bit of my road atlas through Nannerch and towards Cwm. I didn't have any sufficiently detailed mapping, so I was mainly working from memory as I drove my car up some lanes that appeared to wind their way higher and higher up a hillside in what I determined was the general area of this hill! I was pleased when without too much difficulty, I found the recognised parking spot, in a very wide entry to a forest track.
I set off walking along this forest track, and got into a dilemma when faced with a fork. I thought it was the left fork on the smaller track, but after a few yards of walking, it didn't seem right, so I retreated and continued on the main track. I soon realised that this was wrong, and my first instincts were right, as I was clearly into territory that was previously unchartered (by me). Nonetheless, a trodden track cut left and up hill, so I reasoned that this probably went to the very same summit, and followed it.
After a bit of a flaff ensuring the pole on my rucksack got under and past low tree branches, I found myself emerging at the stone cairn and memorial at the summit of Mynydd y Cwm - but from the opposite side. I worked out a couple of directions into which my dipole legs could go, and set up the 40m antenna. Pegs were not needed; I just wrapped the guy strings and wire winders around tree branches - there were plenty of them around.
I was not looking for a monster pile-up on this summit, for it had been a long day and I was quite keen to get on the road back to Macclesfield. In the event, the run of calling stations stopped after 16 QSOs in 11 minutes. It was time to pack up, get back to the car, and drive home via the M56. Many thanks to all callers.
