This was the final of four summits activated in the Antrim Hills on the third day of our short holiday in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. In the early morning I had activated Carn Hill AH-010 and Big Collin AH-008, and then Agnew's Hill AH-005 just before lunch in the early afternoon Lunch was in fact taken in the picnic site at the foot of Slemish (on the table behind Tom & Jimmy below). It was Wednesday 23rd April, and a lovely hot sunny day, although this summit was fiercely windy at the top. From Agnew's Hill, we simply "followed our noses" in the general direction of Slemish (an unmistakable profile on the horizon) and spiralling round closer until we picked up the road signs for it. This was the first summit I had ascended where walking alone was insufficient - ie, it was our first scramble! It was very steep, and three point contact was in order much of the way up, a really interesting challenge and a contrast to most other summit ascents. Sadly, the trig point as indicated by the map is no longer in existence. It was apparently rolled off the summit of Slemish by some yobs a few years ago. It was particularly good to work George GI4SRQ from this summit as that completed four-out-of-four for George on my four Antrim Hills summit activations on the day.
Callsign today was MN1SWL/P, club callsign of the International Short Wave League (ISWL) - see my radio page for more details. Thanks to the following stations, all worked on 2m FM with 2.5 watts:
