Steekammchen, LX/LX-001 - 456m ASL - 49 58 21 N 5 57 6 E - Luxembourg R2 - 4 SOTA points Monday 1st July 2019
Luxembourg was an interesting little country. It reminded me very much of Cheshire’s own Delamere Forest - but on a much bigger scale! And with half-price fuel. Timed to perfection, I was running on fumes as I entered LX, so filled up the cheapest tank of diesel I’ve had in years. Grateful thanks to Steve G1INK for the heads-up.
Our first summit in LX was the country's highest summit (although not the country's highest point) but with a public road running almost right to it, a trivially small walk was all that was required. This took us through some tall vegetation on a baking hot summer's morning, and my face could feel the very high pollen count the moment I stepped out of the car.
After a very short walk, Jimmy advised that we were on the indistinct "summit", and we could set up. We kept it simply - 40m CW for me, 40m SSB for Jimmy, though as he did on every summit, he set up the MFD in the hope of a VHF QSO. Didn't happen for him on this summit though.
Next, we made out way to Kiirchbësch LX/LX-003, as we continued our quest to activate all the LX summits in the day.
