From Callow Hill G/WB-015, we made a ten minute drive to the other side of Craven Arms, and our usual parking spot at SO 424 806. This is opposite a large white house, and a gentleman who lives there was in his front garden. This part of the road is in the activation zone, and we usually use the public footpath through the field on the opposite side of the road to the actual summit, but here was an opportunity to explore the possibility of visiting the summit true.
We had a friendly conversation with the chap, who did remark at one point "Oh, you're not one of those RHB lot are you?"! I explained what we were up to. He said that the field behind his house was not his property, but doubted we would have any problem with a quick access because "everyone else does". He suggested we follow the left-hand boundary of his property and access the field beyond it. Which is exactly what we did. It was a bit tricky getting past the barbed wire fence on very loose and steep earth, but we did, and were soon at the highest point of the field. This is not the summit though; that lies beyond another fence, a few metres inside a small but dense wood.
The activation was made good with the requisite four contacts apiece, then we packed up and returned to the car, keen to get going. We were booked in at Bridges Youth Hostel that evening, and needed to check-in, get a shower and change, and be in the local pub in time for some food. We did make it in time, but the pub being next door to the hostel certainly helped! Many thanks to the following stations, all worked on 2m FM with 2.5 watts:
