I activated this summit with Jimmy on Norbreck Rally day, Sunday 21st March 2004. This was the first of three summits activated on the day, the others being Longridge Fell G/SP-014 and Billinge Hill G/SP-017. We set out from Macclesfield at 6.45am after an early get-up and breakfast. We followed the M60 and M61 to the Reebok Stadium (Bolton Wanderers FC), and drove up to the road between Bolton and Horwich. After a couple of mistakes, we rediscovered the correct route, straight up the hill to Montcliffe, and picking up the access road to the NTL transmitter facility. We found a convenient parking spot and then walked for about 15 minutes to the trig point, located in boggy ground on the summit. I used a fence rather than the guying kit to support the SOTA Beam, and it was pretty cold and windy. Thankfully, four SOTA regulars were waiting for me even at this early hour, and the logbook was closed just five minutes after it was opened. We packed up and set off the the second summit of the day. Thanks to the following stations, all worked on 2m FM with 0.5 watts:
