Tuesday 8th October 2019 - Garway Hill G/WB-013 & Aconbury Hill G/WB-024 Gig: Simon Faulkner Band Venue: Great Tythe Barn, Tetbury From Garway Hill G/WB-013, it was a fairly short drive back towards Hereford for Aconbury Hill. There was a grassy bank beside the church where the track led off, on which a couple of cars were parked. I made it a third, and set off along the PROW in a westerly direction. This soon turned north into the woods, and I followed the muddy trails right up to the trig point. Some sections needed careful footwork to skirt around the sides of very large and deep puddles!
I tried to qualify using only handheld and rubber duck on 2m FM again, which ultimately I did. Three QSOs came really quickly. While I was trying to get the fourth, the phone rang. It was a musician colleague of mine who wanted to talk something over about an upcoming gig, resulting in me being QRT for 15 minutes! I went back on the air and added two more contacts, including SOTA activator and chaser Phil G4HQB in Ludlow.
The gig was good fun with Andy (drums, Andy (keyboards) and Simon (guitar, vocals, bandleader). Afterwards, I drove 25 minutes to nearby Dursley and let myself into the AirBnB cottage where I was staying. My room was nice and comfortable, and I was made to feel welcome there, and invited to help myself to breakfast in the morning. Which I did, before heading off to do Dundry Down G/SC-010.
