This summit was activated by me, accompanied by Jimmy on Saturday 26th June 2004:
Headed directly south on country lanes from Walton Hill CE-002,
following signs for Bromsgrove. Picked up M5(S) and went down to junction 9 south-west of
Bredon, from where I worked back up to the village of Kemerton, and through there and up
the hill. At the end of this lane there is parking for three cars, and I got the last
spot. The path continues from the end of the road in the same direction, and continues
past a junction where one path goes into the wood. Then you get to a sign which says
something of the order of "You are not on a PROW any more, please go back to the
PROW"! So into the wood it was, and back out of it pretty quickly, and
continuing the gradual ascent along the sides of the fields. A number of tracks lead off
to the left, but the one to take is not a PROW, but signed as a concessionary footpath.
This leads across in the direction of the building with aerials on that looks like an old
water tower. Another track then curves its way up towards the iron age fort and to
the summit, marked by a large stone ("Banbury Stone"). Just beyond the
rock is a large hole in the ground, presumably part of the old fort, and we sat in here to
activate and gain shelter from the wind. Weather was murky with drizzle - again. The
activation was qualified very quickly on 2m FM, before descending and heading onto Cleeve Hill CE-003.
