Carn Hill 2003

This was the first of four summits activated in the Antrim Hills on the third day of our short holiday in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.  I would later activate Big Collin AH-008, Agnew's Hill AH-005 and Slemish AH-007.  It was very early on Wednesday 23rd April, cold and foggy with no hint of the lovely hot sunny day that was to develop.  Taking the A8, B99 and B58 down from Larne towards Carrickfergus, I then turned right after the North Woodburn Reservoir through and around the Woodburn Forest, eventually turning right into the track at J 351 886.  I parked the car and looked at where the road winded its way up the hill towards the transmitter up there.  Vehicle access was not possible anyway, due to tied gates, but I made the short walk up.  Orientation was difficult due to the thick fog, but by following the principle of always moving onto higher ground, before too long the trig point appeared out of the mist.  Despite the early hour, there were more than enough stations to work me, quickly complete the activation, and allow me to move onto the next summit.  (NB, I only ever move on when there are no more stations calling me).
