Foel Fenlli 2003

This summit was activated on 12th April 2003, as part of a 3-summit expedition carried out by Tom & Jimmy.  This was the first summit in the three, before Moel Famau NW-044 and Moel Gyw NW-053.   Parking was at the pay and display car park at SJ 161 605 after following the signpost for Moel Famau country park off the A494 Mold to Ruthin road.  This is a very quick and easy summit to get to, not bad for 2 points.  It does help though if you use the map and follow it!  The path to the summit of Foel Fenlli ascends a stairway out of the south car park - Jimmy and myself managed to climb up onto the Offa's Dyke path which runs around the edge of the hill but not to the summit.  Fortunately, there are little well worn paths (not marked on the map) that run from the Offa's Dyke path back over to the correct path leading to the summit.  Even with this mistake, it was only about 15 minutes to get from the car park to the summit, which is marked by a large cairn and a wooden stake.

These two photographs show Tom at the summit cairn of Foel Fenlli NW-051, and then one of Jimmy taken looking out North from the same summit, making more of the excellent views in the Clwydian Range.  Behind Jimmy you can see the Offa's Dyke paths from the car park, leading to Moel Famau NW-044.  For lunch arrangements, see Moel Gyw NW-053.
