Foel Fenlli 2015

From Moel Gyw GW/NW-053, it was a short drive back down the A494 before turning left onto the Bwlch Pen Barras road.  This is easy to spot because it has a large signpost saying "Moel Famau"!  It was now a hot and sunny morning this Sunday 7th June 2015, so after paying my £1 for parking, it was sunhat, shades and shirt-sleeve order for the ascent.

Ready for the ascent        Summit of Foel Fenlli

The climb up Foel Fenlli is, shall we say, direct.  It's pretty steep, but thankfully tamed by a zigzag alternative near the start, and then well-maintained and well-constructed steps thereafter.  Once at the top of the last of the many flights of steps, it is then a much more gentle rise along the iron age earthworks to the summit.

It was a bit chillier on the summit, and the fleece was deployed.  It remained bright though, and the view across to the next summit - Moel Famau - was impressive.  After the rather lukewarm activity on the 6m earlier, I decided to go for 10m, and seven contacts were made.  Three on CW, four on SSB, and included S2S with Simon GW4TJC/P on Elidir Fawr GW/NW-005.

Operating position        Moel Famau from Foel Fenlli

It was already approaching midday and I had only done two of the five summits planned for the day.  It was time to crack on to Moel Famau GW/NW-044.
