This hill, formerly known as Edmund's Tump, was activated as the second of the day after Black Mountain GW/WB-001 on Tuesday 29th August 2006. Jimmy was now totally focused, and was quite insistent that we concentrate entirely on the WB set of hills. A debate ensued, as I was aware of how close we would otherwise by-pass this hill in the South Wales region. The debate was won (control of the car helped, certainly) and we headed around the quintessentially Welsh narrow twisting disorientating lanes. We aimed for, and reached the entrance to the access road for 'The Dawn of the Day' residence, at SO 412 212. A public right of way led up the side of the field on the other side of the fence from the access track, and then into a mound covered with crops. A trodden path led to the trig point at the summit on a gorgeous afternoon that had us questioning why we were still wearing waterproof overtrousers.
Many thanks to the following stations, all worked on 2m FM with 2.5 watts:
2E0HVZ/P on holiday in Devon was a pleasing contact, while it was good to meet Ian "G4 'Wake Up Happy'" who would work us frequently over the next few days. Despite it being after 5pm, we still reckoned we could squeeze two more activations in today, so it was straight back down to the car to move across to Garway Hill G/WB-013. |
