This summit was activated by me in a solo expedition on Sunday 29th June 2003.
The Sunday morning kicked off with a some of the BDXC members from the previous night's beer & curry social, reconvening in Richmond Park complete with beams, tuners and logbooks for a spot of FM broadcast DXing. Following this I took the M4 and M25 exiting at J20 onto the A41. After Tring, it was left onto the B4009 and left again, and then right into the Forestry Commission park for this popular nature & woodland area in the Chilterns. After paying the £2 parking fee, I pulled into a parking space after the second large bend (before the main parking/play/picnic area). A few metres back down from here was the PROW to the summit, marked with a footpath sign. There were a few low branches to duck under to avoid catching my rucksack, but this was another very quick and easy walk to the field with the trig point. This is in fact Aston Hill, 260m ASL. The actual summit, and the highest point in the Chilterns is around a kilometre away in a wooded area (shown behind the trig in the second photo above). I selected to operate from the trig as this was out in the open, easier to find and well within the 25m vertical rule at only 7m lower. I found 2m FM to be the quietest I had found it all weekend (except for in London where it is stone dead!), but still managed to rustle up the four contacts in the usual 15 minutes. There were no further takers, so it was back to the car and onto the fourth out of four summits for the weekend - Bardon Hill CE-004. Callsign today was MX1SWL/P, club callsign of the International Short Wave League (ISWL) - see my radio page for more details. Thanks to the following stations worked, all on 2m FM, the first two with 2.5 watts, and then with 1 watt:
