This summit was activated by myself, with Jimmy & Liam as the second summit (after Fair Snape Fell SP-007) in an expedition on Sunday 22nd June 2003.
After lunch in Chipping, we made the short drive to Longridge Fell, taking the road from SD 639 411 that winds up Jeffrey Hill. We continued past the parking indicated at SD 639 402 and found a couple of spots to park just off the roadside near the start of the more direct path from SD 644 401. A very easy walk followed, requiring only 80m of ascent over the approximate mile to the trig point. The beam was again assembled on the walking pole as on Fair Snape Fell SP-007 earlier, and again it was very easy to make the four contacts with just 500mW. Sam M3CKN was back for more, this time off Whitfell LD-032, as was Keith, now mobile with his own callsign. G0KAO, G0BMH, regular chaser G7DIE and M0BKS completed the log from SP-014, before the drop in temperature and darkening clouds (at 5.20pm) prompted us to add fleeces and waterproofs for the first time on a fine day. Following descent and loading the sacs into the car boot, no sooner had I reconnected the FT817 to the car battery and mobile antenna that I heard G3CWI/P calling from Bosley Cloud SP-015, up which he had apparently cycled! I tried my luck, and was very pleased to be able to work him from Outer Lancashire. A nice surprise to end the day. We were accompanied back down the M6 by M1EEW, G7DIE and several others on the GB3MN repeater. A very satisfying day indeed. Callsign today was MX1SWL/P, club callsign of the International Short Wave League (ISWL) - see my radio page for more details. Thanks to the following stations worked, all on 2m FM with 500mW:
