Moel Famau 2003

This summit was activated on 12th April 2003, as part of a 3-summit expedition carried out by Tom & Jimmy.  This was the second summit in the three, after Foel Fenlli NW-051 and before Moel Gyw NW-053.  Parking was at the pay and display car park at SJ 161 605 after following the signpost for Moel Famau country park off the A494 Mold to Ruthin road.  There were actually three paths available, the main Offa's Dyke path (longest but easiest), a slightly higher path and a direct path, but that suffered some steep ascents and descents along it.  We walked to Moel Famau via the middle path (which joins the main path after one third of the way in any case), and returned all the way on the Offa's Dyke path.  The summit was very busy with walkers and picnicing families, but there was plenty of room up there.

The following photographs were taken on the summit of Moel Famau NW-044.   As well as the trig point (pictured) on the summit, there is also the remains of the Jubilee Tower.  The top of the what remains of the Jubilee Tower (apparently ruined by the raucous celebrations of its completion!) was a convenient and comfortable place for me to do the radio activation, and this included a four-way SOTA to SOTA net, also involving Roger MW0IDX/P on NW-008 Y Lliwedd, Shirley MW0YLS/P and Dave GW4GTE/P on NW-027 Arenig Fach, and Ron G4FBC/P on Fairfield LD-007.  These photographs also indicate that the old camera was about to bite the dust!  For lunch arrangements, see Moel Gyw NW-053.
