This summit was walked and activated on Saturday 5th July 2003, by myself, accompanied by Jimmy and Liam.

En route to Snowdonia, I worked Alan MW1EYO/P on two summits, NW-013 and NW-028.  At the campsite, and while pitching the tent and getting organised, worked Shirley MW0YLS/P on NW-024, Keith GW0OXV/P on NW-001 and Alan again (after meeting us at the site and then zipping off again) on NW-014. Late afternoon (par for the course for us), Jimmy, Liam and myself set out to activate NW-056 Moel y Dyniewed. We parked in the lay-by on the A498 road just south of the 2nd lake after the campsite - Llyn Dinas. We crossed the road and followed the path around by the lake and then upwards and over towards Beddgelert. At one point, not shown on the map, there was a signpost PROW junctioning off to the left (South East), and up towards the summit. We followed this, which crossed back and forth over a few stiles and involved several very steep scrambles. It was certainly the hardest I've ever worked for a single point! We reached the summit at about 5.20pm and set out the HB9CV beam (rubbish SWR again, soon packed away and replaced with the rubber ducky which was infinitely better!), the expedition drinks and snacks and took a few photos. Then we called CQ, and what a pile-up, with no less than ten stations coing back with 59 reports, all inside 12 minutes! All stations in fact were down on the Gwynant campsite and participants in the SOTA BBQ!

We got back to the site just after 7pm, and were pleased to meet more SOTA activators who were later arrivals, as well as socialise and barbecue with the rest of the party met earlier on. We enjoyed a nice evening of chat, food, beer and a bit of antenna comparison and testing!
