Mynydd Cynros 2012

From Pen-crug-melyn GW/MW-036 on Monday 20th August 2012, we made our way eastwards, through many winding country lanes, and eventually to a parking spot under some trees on a cul-de-sac lane at SN611326.  Jimmy and I walked back down the lane to the track leading off to the right, which we then followed up hill.  This route followed this long sweeping zigzag track up the hill, which then became quickly more graded as the hill rounded off.

We aimed for a small copse of trees on the horizon, next to which we found the trig point and a convenient fence corner for setting up and sitting down.  Again we set up for 40m, although we would finally grow tired of this band on this activation!  Again, Jimmy 2O0EYP/P was quickly disillusioned with 2m FM from the handheld, and so opening affairs on 40m.  Despite hearing DL/PA3FYG/P on Wasserkuppe DM/HE-001, Jimmy could not get through, but manged to make four other QSOs on a self-spotted frequency.

With just four QSOs on 40m CW for the second activation in a row, I agreed with Jimmy that the first choice on the next summit - Rhos Ymyrson GW/MW-035 - should be 20m.  We had carried both the 40m and 20m aerials with us on all summits, but with the preference of only using one or the other if possible.
