From Trum y Ddysgl GW/NW-024 on Monday 23rd July 2019, Jimmy and I found the narrow ridge across to Mynydd Tal-y-mignedd. It was perhaps useful for me that the visibility was virtually non-existent, and I didn't have to suffer the trauma of witnessing the plunging drops close to either side of my boots! Once we reached the obelisk and wall at Mynydd Tal-y-mignedd, I decided it was time - and location - for lunch, which was clam chowder - another favourite of ours.
We now followed the wall and connecting ridges over to Craig Cwm Silyn. The weather had slightly improved during the second half of the traverse, but was back to plain awful by the time we got to the summit. Unfortunately, Jimmy's VX-110 and smartphone both got very wet, as did our logbooks - and clothes! Everything survived - except Jimmy's phone - this would prove to be the end of the road for that, and, sadly, for the photos he'd taken during the day so far.
It was a pretty bleak and inhospitable situation, and we made use of the bothy bag emergency shelter. It was not a time to be "playing radio" - so we each secured our four contacts as quickly as we could and got on with our descent. The weather improved gradually on the final section of our walk, down to where we'd left the car earlier around SH 496 511. We were now very keen to get back to the youth hostel, have our showers and enjoy dinner at the Cwellyn Arms. The next day we would tackle another new unique for us - Foel Cae'rberllan GW/NW-057.
