Ruardean Hill 2015

South Wales SOTA Trip - Day 6 (part 6) - Friday 27th May 2015

From Wentwood GW/SW-033, we drove north into Gloucestershire and the Forest of Dean.  Jimmy directed me around the confusing (to me) country lanes around Ruardean, Ruardean Woodside and ultimately, Ruardean Hill.

Inverted V antenna, with the car in the background - very short walk!        Jimmy

For the first time ever, we were able to actually access the trigpoint.  Previously, this always appeared to be within a locked compound, but this time we found an access into this area.  I made plenty of contacts on 40m SSB, the WAB community being keen for the trig point again, but I feared the Challenge multiplier might get away.  Fortunately, Manuel EA2DT responded to my self-spot and was able to work me.  Jimmy made seven QSOs on 2m FM.

Driving away from Ruardean Hill around 8.30pm local time, it was going to be a struggle to get the record-breaking seventh activation in, in daylight at least.  We considered calling it a day and driving straight home, but Jimmy convinced me that it was not far from here to Cleeve Hill G/CE-001 - so to there we went!

Looking ahead to the long descent... ;)        MFD 2m antenna
