South Wales SOTA Trip - Day 6 (part 6) - Friday 27th May 2015 From Wentwood GW/SW-033, we drove north into Gloucestershire and the Forest of Dean. Jimmy directed me around the confusing (to me) country lanes around Ruardean, Ruardean Woodside and ultimately, Ruardean Hill.
For the first time ever, we were able to actually access the trigpoint. Previously, this always appeared to be within a locked compound, but this time we found an access into this area. I made plenty of contacts on 40m SSB, the WAB community being keen for the trig point again, but I feared the Challenge multiplier might get away. Fortunately, Manuel EA2DT responded to my self-spot and was able to work me. Jimmy made seven QSOs on 2m FM.
Driving away from Ruardean Hill around 8.30pm local time, it was going to be a struggle to get the record-breaking seventh activation in, in daylight at least. We considered calling it a day and driving straight home, but Jimmy convinced me that it was not far from here to Cleeve Hill G/CE-001 - so to there we went!
