This summit was activated on Thursday 24th July 2003, by myself, accompanied as usual by Jimmy & Liam.
From Callow Hill WB-015, we drove down into Craven Arms on the
minor road through Lower Dinchope then the B4368. We continued straight across the centre
of Craven Arms and out on the B4368, turning the first left into Park Lane, and following
this for about a mile and a half before taking the first left (at a crossroads) into the
road up to View Edge. At the summit of the road, just outside a farm, there was a spot to
pull in and park. There were stiles for the Marches Way path on both sides of the road.
The true summit lies on the left of the road, but on private land. However, by climbing
the stile on the right of the road, we were able to quickly walk up a swelling in the
field reaching just 1m lower than the true summit. Interestingly, it is actually this one
that is marked as "View Edge" on the OS map! Again, we set up the SOTA Beam and FT817 and worked the four contacts to claim the activation. The four stations were four of the five that I had worked just over an hour earlier on Callow Hill WB-015, minus Dave G4OYX who had gone out to work on the night-shift at the Woofferton transmitter site. We packed up and completed the short hop to the car and headed off to our final summit for the day, Burrow WB-014. Thanks to the following stations, the first two worked on 2m SSB with 1 watt, the second two worked on 2m FM with 500 mW:
