Penycloddiau 2006

From the most southerly hill on 4th June 2006 - Moel Gyw GW/NW-054 - in a range of four Marilyns in the Clwydians, our car journey took us on the narrow Welsh country lanes, skipping past Foel Fenlli GW/NW-051 and Moel Famau GW/NW-044 to the most northerly - Penycloddiau GW/NW-054.  We arrived at the car park to the south of the hill, and for a change there was plenty of space to park.

Remembering that my Yaesu VX-7R did a bit more than my previous handhelds, I used it to listen to BBC Radio 5 Live on the ascent for the day's sport, particularly the latest from the England v Sri Lanka cricket test match from Trent Bridge.  Unfortunately, the VX-7R doesn't cover as far down as 198kHz for the live commentary, so I had to be content with Five Live's regular updates.  Again, it was a T-shirt and shorts ascent as the sun continued to beat down. Jimmy had strode ahead and was signing another cache when we met him at the summit.

We undertook another 2m FM handheld activation, as Jimmy continued to remind me that he wanted to be home in time for Coronation Street...  Nonetheless, plenty of contacts were made, with good signals coming in from stations all over the North West. We returned home in time for roast leg of lamb and all the trimmings, and Coronation Street!

Thanks to the following stations, all worked on 2m FM with 2.5 watts:
