SOTA road trip, Day 5 - Wednesday 5th August 2020

From Beacon Batch G/SC-003, I made my back to the M5 which I followed down to Bridgwater.  I then allowed the satnav to navigate me to the Triscombe Stone car park, which is less than a kilometere NNW of the summit.  I managed to make the short easy walk a little more complicated by forgetting the way, and following the path around the edge of the woods for too long!  This was not a major problem, for another good path was available to take me up to my target summit.

I set up the 17m GP a little way off the summit, in order to find some shelter from the cold wind that was now blowing.  I was now partway down the path that I'd originally intended for my ascent!  A couple of QSOs came quickly on 17m CW, but things then went quiet very quickly.  After ten minutes of no responses to my CW CQ calls, I tried a call on the 2m FM handheld, and worked a couple of stations starightaway, thus netting me the qualification.

Still there were no more responses on 17m, so I packed up and completed the short descent back to the car park.  I was now looking forward to spending an evening in one of my favourite SOTA areas - Exmoor - where I would activate all three of its SOTA summits during the evening - starting with Periton Hill G/SC-006.
