Sharp Haw 2006

After leaving Cringle Moor-Drake Howe G/TW-002 on Tuesday 30th May 2006, we headed south on the A19 and A1.  We decided against Thorpe Fell Top G/NP-025 becuase I had not brought a map for it, and Jimmy correctly recalled that a little map and compass work is needed on the last section.  So it was off to Sharp Haw G/NP-029.  As usual, we took all the wrong turnings in the country lanes around this distinctive summit - do it every year - but eventually we reached the parking area just East of the hill and North of the Craven Heifer pub.  We walked up the farm track and bridleway to the summit, powered by Youth Hostel caramel flapjack.

At the summit we sat on the bench and used just handhelds to activate.  Despite our lazy and unadventurous choice of equipment, this was by far the easiest summit to activate, and it was nice to at last speak to some familiar voices from the SOTA chasing community, something we had been missing in the previous days.  (Although we did speak to Clive M1YAM from Bishop Wilton Wold G/TW-004 and George M1BTG and Lesa M0BQD had registered on the SOTA Database just a few hours before we worked them from Gisborough Moor G/TW-003). Again there was a choice to be made - a late activation on Rombalds Moor G/NP-028 and arrive home at 9.30pm, or go home now for 7.30pm.  We all agreed on the latter, and on the fact that it had been a great few days away, with 6 uniques for Jimmy, and even 3 for me.
